WHY YOUTH ARE TURNING TO SKILLS INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR JOBS

Across Uganda, a quiet shift is taking place. More young people are choosing to learn practical skills instead of waiting for formal employment.

With job opportunities remaining limited and competition increasing, many youths are turning to technology, agribusiness, online trade, and creative work to earn a living. From coding and graphic design to content creation and mobile money businesses, skills are becoming the new currency.

Experts say access to smartphones, affordable internet, and online learning platforms has opened doors that did not exist a decade ago. Youths who invest time in learning are now creating income, supporting families, and even employing others.

Government and private sector programs continue to encourage skills development, but analysts stress that personal initiative remains key. In a fast-changing economy, those who adapt early are better positioned for success.
