Kamwenge: The Chief Magistrate Court has been commissioned today

The Kamwenge Chief Magistrate Court has been commissioned today, at the Court grounds in Kamwenge under the theme of Enhancing Judicial accountability and access to justice.

 The commissioning was led by the deputy chief justice Dr. Flavian Zeija.In his communication, Dr. Zeija asked the Chief Magistrate officers not to look at the court as buildings but grounds of serving the people citing that the mission of the court is Justice for all. He warned of corruption by the magistrates, asking courts to provide hospitality and customer care to the people seeking justice.

Dr. Zeija asked called on courts to embrace the practice of Alternative Dispute Resolution, mediation, plea bargaining and small claims, asking courts to engage religious and local leaders in this. This he says will reduce on case backload solving unresolved cases in the district.

Atim Harriet Okello the chief Magistrate revealed that they are trying mediation style following training for mediators this year in Kamwenge. She says very many cases have been concluded through mediation and are now occupied with 5 cases in their backlog.

Kamwenge Deputy RDC Loy Batuuze, representing RDC Africano Aharikundira pledged total commitment to supporting court activities. She asked people of Kamwenge to seek justice in government channels to avoid loss of money and properties in hands of bush lawyers and fraudsters.
