A last-minute High Court petition has been filed challenging the planned coronation of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, just one day before the ceremony is scheduled to take place at Karuziika Palace in Fort Portal.

The legal challenge has added uncertainty to preparations for the highly anticipated coronation, which is scheduled for Tuesday, September 29, 2026. Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma is expected to assume the royal name Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I.
The petition comes as Tooro Kingdom completes final preparations for the ceremony, with royal officials, cultural leaders and government representatives expected to attend.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has also confirmed his attendance at the coronation, adding national attention to the historic royal transition.
The court challenge comes after the Babiito Royal Clan selected Kijanangoma as the successor to the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who died on August 27, 2026.
Despite the legal development, preparations for the coronation have continued in Fort Portal as the kingdom awaits the historic ceremony.
