BREAKING NEWS:Kamwenge district speakership race hits up..


As the swearing-in ceremony for newly elected District Councilors in Kamwenge District approaches for the *2026–2031 political term* , several councilors have already declared interest in contesting for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

The Speaker’s seat is currently held by *Rt. Hon. Twebaze Gerald, while Harriet Mujuni serves as Deputy Speaker.* 

Race for District Speaker

Among those who have expressed interest in the Speaker position are:

1.Julius Byaruhanga, popularly known as Finest. Byaruhanga, a renowned journalist, was elected unopposed in the recently concluded elections and will be serving his second term as *District Councilor representing Busiriba Sub County* .

2.Anyijukire David, alias *Oruhuzyo,* the District Councilor for Biguri Town Council. He also secured a second term in office.

3.Kasabarara Jackson Rwanfizi, the Councilor-elect for Kabambiro Sub County. In the 2021 general elections, *Kasabarara contested for the LCV Chairperson seat but was unsuccessful.* 

Meanwhile, the contest for *Deputy Speaker position* has attracted several new contenders, each expressing confidence in their ability to serve effectively. 

The aspirants include:

1.Godwin Tumuhimbise, commonly known as Mwinemulangira, a journalist and Councilor-elect *for Bwizi Sub County.* 

2.Lucky Ahimbisibwe, the Female Councilor-elect for *Kahunge Town Council.* 

3.Akampurira Luciano, representing *Bihanga Sub County.* 

4.Twesigye Vincent, Councilor-elect for *Kabuga Town Council.* 

With elections scheduled for May this year, candidates have begun mobilizing and engaging fellow councilors to garner support ahead of the voting day.
