The meeting, reportedly organized by one of the aspirants for the position, was intended to rally support and build consensus ahead of the upcoming elections. *However, efforts to agree on a joint candidate collapsed after* councilors failed to reach common ground, with each member backing their preferred contender.

Sources indicate that the disagreement stemmed from councilors insisting on supporting candidates they believe possess the competence and ability to effectively manage and execute council business.

The election for District Speaker is scheduled to take place in *May this year, as preparations for the 2026–2031 political term gather* momentum.

In Kamwenge District, the race for speakership has so far attracted five declared candidates:
*Rt. Hon.* Twebaze Gerald, the incumbent Speaker
*Hon* . Harriet Mujuni, the current Deputy Speaker
*Hon* . Julius Byaruhanga, also known as “Finest,” a renowned journalist and LCV Councilor representing Busiriba Sub County,

Hon David Anyijukire, representing Biguri Town Council
Hon. Kasabara Jackson Rwanfizi of Kabambiro Sub County

Additionally, *Hon* . Robert Namara, the LCV Councilor representing Kahunge Town Council, is yet to officially declare his candidacy. With divisions already emerging among councilors, the forthcoming election is expected to be highly competitive as contenders intensify efforts to secure support.
