Prince David died on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Uganda Cancer Institute in Mulago, Kampala, where he had been receiving treatment. His death was confirmed by Tooro Kingdom officials and members of his family.
Reports indicate that Prince David had been battling stage-three throat cancer for more than a year. Earlier in 2026, his family appealed for financial assistance to support specialised treatment after he had undergone treatment in Uganda.
His death comes only days after the burial of his cousin, King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who was laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs on September 12, 2026. The timing has brought another period of mourning to the Tooro royal family.
Prince David was the elder brother of Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma, who was selected by the Babiito royal clan as the successor to King Oyo. Edward's coronation process is continuing following his designation as the next Tooro monarch.
Funeral arrangements for Prince David are expected to be communicated by the family and Tooro Kingdom authorities.
Elite Daily News Live will continue to follow developments from the Tooro Kingdom and provide updates on the royal family's mourning and the ongoing transition to the new reign.
