The bishop was ordained and installed on Saturday, October 3, 2026, during a colourful ceremony held at the St. Ignatius University Kabale grounds. The event brought together thousands of Catholic faithful, priests, religious leaders, government officials and other invited guests.
Bishop Gubazire takes over the leadership of Kabale Diocese following the retirement of Rt. Rev. Callistus Rubaramira, who served as bishop for more than two decades. His appointment comes at a significant moment for the diocese as it looks toward continued growth in its pastoral, educational and social activities.
The installation ceremony was characterised by prayers, liturgical celebrations and messages of welcome from Church and government leaders. The faithful also expressed hope that the new bishop will strengthen evangelisation, unity and the spiritual development of Catholics across the diocese.
Bishop Gubazire brings experience from his years of priestly ministry and formation work in different countries. His background in pastoral ministry and formation is expected to contribute to his new responsibilities as shepherd of the Catholic community in Kabale.
As the new bishop begins his ministry, attention will now turn to his pastoral priorities and vision for the Diocese of Kabale.
EDNL will keep updating this story as more information and developments emerge.
