At least 12 people have been killed and dozens more injured after Russia launched another large-scale wave of missile and drone attacks against Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The overnight assault marked the sixth consecutive day of Russian strikes, according to Ukrainian authorities. The latest attacks involved ballistic missiles and large numbers of drones, causing damage to residential buildings, railway facilities and other civilian infrastructure.
Kyiv was among the hardest-hit areas. Ukrainian officials said a strike on railway infrastructure in the capital killed seven people, including six railway employees. Another person was killed in a separate strike in the city, bringing the reported death toll in Kyiv to eight. Several people, including children, were also injured.
The surrounding Kyiv region also suffered heavy damage. In Boryspil, four people were reported killed and 13 injured after strikes hit the area. A five-story residential building was damaged, forcing residents to evacuate while emergency teams worked at the scene.
Among those killed was an Indian citizen, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Ukrainian officials said the overall number of casualties could change as rescue and recovery operations continue.
Emergency crews were deployed across the affected areas, with nearly 350 rescuers working in Kyiv and the surrounding region. Fires were extinguished at several locations while authorities continued searching damaged buildings and assessing the extent of the destruction.
The attacks also affected other parts of Ukraine, including the Odesa region, where strikes damaged energy and export-related infrastructure. Ukrainian officials said thousands of families were left without electricity in some areas as repair crews worked to restore services.
The latest bombardment comes as the war between Russia and Ukraine continues into its fifth year. Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly called for stronger air-defense capabilities, particularly systems capable of intercepting ballistic missiles and newer types of drones.
Russia has continued to conduct large-scale aerial attacks while Ukraine has also intensified drone strikes against targets inside Russian territory. The latest escalation further highlights the continuing difficulty of reaching a lasting ceasefire between the two sides.
Rescue and recovery operations remain underway, and Ukrainian authorities are expected to provide further updates on the casualties and damage as assessments continue.
