Give Ruto two terms in exchange for ending ID screening, Kindiki, and residents of Northern Kenya.
Kithure Kindiki the Deputy President of Kenya has drummed up support for President William Ruto’s second term in office.
The DP stated that Ruto deserves a second term for removing the vetting process for identification cards while addressing Lagdera residents in Garissa. He stated that Ruto's government has prevented discrimination against Northeastern residents. There has never been a government in Kenya that has done more to bring Kenyans together than the current administration led by President William Ruto. For more than 60 year young people from Northern parts of Kenya would not be able to get IDs without passing through the long process and discrimination,” he said.
“The discriminatory procedure that was in place was signed into law by President Ruto when he came to Wajir town. The process that is being undertaken to get IDs in other parts of Kenya to also apply in Northeastern.”
According to the DP, the move emphasizes that Northern Kenyans are just like other Kenyans and should not be treated differently. “Ni fire si fire, mtampatia two terms for doing that, will you add him another term for abolishing ID vetting?” Kindiki asked the residents.
A Presidential Proclamation was signed by President Ruto on February 5 to officially end ID verification for Northeastern residents. The move, according to the President, will make it simpler for Northern Kenyans to obtain national identification documents. The Presidential Proclamation on Registration and Issuance of IDs to Border Counties, signed by Ruto, was referred to as an end to unfair and unequal practices. "All Kenyan children should be vetted equally and without discrimination when it comes to vetting. He added, "We want the people of Northern Kenya to feel like they are just like the rest of the country." He made the remarks after publicly signing and reading out the decree at Orahey Grounds in Wajir Town on Wednesday.
The President went on to say that the State has been extra-vetting and ethnic profiling Northeastern residents before they can get birth certificates and national identity cards for years. Kindiki praised the decision of leaders in the North Eastern region to collaborate with the Kenya Kwanza administration to develop the region. The Deputy President promised accelerated development in the region in collaboration with the leaders, highlighting projects worth billions of shillings ongoing in different parts of the area.
We are appreciative of the leaders' decision to back our President and the government. It is not taken for granted by us. They are excellent leaders who adore their nation. DP stated, "We will collaborate to develop the region." The second-in-command said Ruto’s administration will continue to extend development to every part of the country, including those that have lagged behind for many years.
He said, "We commend President Ruto for uniting the country and ensuring the development of areas that had been marginalized for many years." The LAPSSET corridor project, which will connect Lamu, Ijara, Masalani, Garissa, and Isiolo over 315 kilometers at a cost of Sh27 billion, is one of the most important projects that will transform the area.
