The succession question in Tooro Kingdom has taken a new turn following the rejection of Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma's selection as successor to the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.

The Babiito royal clan succession committee announced Kijanangoma as the successor on September 9. Kijanangoma, who works as a news anchor and editor at Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC), is also a cousin of the late King Oyo.

Queen Mother Raises Questions Over King Oyo's Will

Queen Mother Best Kemigisa has challenged the decision to select a new king, pointing to a reported written will left by King Oyo.

According to the claims surrounding the document, the late king indicated that if he had a legally recognized biological son, that son would be considered his heir to the Tooro throne.

The reported existence of a son has therefore become a central issue in the succession debate. The child's identity has not been publicly established, but Tooro Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki has previously indicated that King Oyo left behind a son who could have a claim to the throne.

Succession Debate Intensifies

The disagreement has transformed the succession process into a wider debate about the future leadership of Tooro Kingdom.
