The accident reportedly occurred on Friday morning along the Mutungo-Biina Road near Muggies Hotel in Nakawa Division. The crash involved a Toyota Hilux pickup and a motorcycle carrying three pupils who were reportedly travelling to school.
The motorcycle rider, identified as Muhindo Reagan, 22, died at the scene following the collision. The three pupils, aged seven, 13 and 13, sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital for medical attention.
Police later arrested the driver, identified as Mulema Dennis, 33, who is a resident of the Mutungo-Biina area. He was taken into custody as investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the accident.
Initial findings suggest that the crash may have been caused by careless driving. However, police investigations are still ongoing to establish exactly how the collision happened and determine whether any other factors contributed to the tragedy.
The accident has renewed concerns about road safety in Kampala, where busy roads and the increasing use of motorcycles continue to present challenges for motorists, passengers and pedestrians.
