Mbale, Industrial City Division: Shock and grief hit residents of Lwakhakha Cell on nomination day after Ismail Tebirondwa, an LC I chairperson aspirant, collapsed and died moments after completing his nomination.
According to eyewitnesses, Tebirondwa arrived at the nomination venue in good health and went through the entire exercise without any signs of illness.
Immediately after being nominated, he walked away from the registration area and suddenly collapsed. Bystanders rushed to help and tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
Although the official cause of death is yet to be confirmed, those at the scene suspect he may have suffered a sudden heart attack.
The incident turned what was supposed to be a day of celebration into one of mourning. Supporters, fellow candidates, and election officials were left in disbelief.
Residents described Tebirondwa as a dedicated community member who was passionate about serving the people of Lwakhakha Cell.
Authorities say an official report will be released after medical procedures.
