The Electoral Commission has strongly denounced incidents of violence that have marred ongoing political campaigns in Gulu City, warning that such actions threaten the integrity of the electoral process and public safety.
In a statement issued following reports of clashes among rival political supporters, the Commission expressed deep concern over rising tensions during campaign activities. It emphasized that elections are meant to be conducted in a peaceful and orderly manner, allowing all candidates to freely present their messages without intimidation, harassment, or disruption.
The Commission called on political parties, candidates, and their supporters to exercise maximum restraint and to respect electoral laws and guidelines governing campaign conduct. It reminded stakeholders that violence undermines democracy and denies citizens their right to make informed choices in a safe environment.
Security agencies and local authorities were urged to act professionally and impartially in maintaining law and order, while community leaders were encouraged to promote dialogue and tolerance among political actors. The Commission also appealed to residents of Gulu City to reject violence and to report any acts that threaten peace during the election period.
