| MTN Uganda entered a strategic partnership with government stakeholders |
The initiative is aimed at transforming the public transport sector by introducing clean-energy buses that reduce carbon emissions, lower fuel costs, and improve air quality in major towns and cities. The project is part of Uganda’s broader plan to adopt sustainable technologies and minimize the environmental impact of traditional fuel-powered vehicles.
Industry experts say the electric bus program could significantly reduce noise pollution and traffic-related emissions, especially in busy urban areas such as Kampala and other fast-growing municipalities. The technology is also expected to create new jobs in engineering, maintenance, and clean-energy infrastructure.
Government officials have welcomed the partnership, describing it as a timely move toward a greener economy and smarter transport systems. They believe the project will ease pressure on fuel imports and make public transport more affordable in the long run.
MTN Uganda has expressed its commitment to supporting innovation and national development through digital and infrastructure-driven solutions. As the project expands, more electric buses are expected to be deployed nationwide in phases.
This collaboration marks a new chapter for Uganda’s transport sector, positioning the country as one of the emerging leaders in clean and sustainable mobility in the region.
