Bushenyi MP Candidate Nursing Injuries After Panga Attack

Bushenyi MP Candidate Nursing Injuries After Panga Attack

Vianah Kemigisha Kashaya

Vianah Kemigisha Kashaya ,  Bushenyi District Woman MP hopeful and  is recovering from injuries sustained after being attacked by machete-wielding thugs on Friday night.

Kemigisha, who is running as an independent candidate, said she was ambushed by a group of about six men as she arrived home at around 1 a.m. in Andrews Cell, Mbarara City North Division.

“I had just called my house help to open the gate when a man armed with a panga approached, demanding information from my phone. He swung the weapon at me, but I quickly ducked inside the car. He struck the car door instead, which probably saved my life,” she narrated.

The attackers reportedly made off with her phone before escaping into the darkness. Kemigisha is currently receiving treatment at Western Medical and Maternity Centre in Mbarara City.

Police in the Rwizi Region confirmed the incident, saying investigations are ongoing.

“I can confirm the case, though details are still scanty. Our team has begun inquiries into the matter,” said Samson Kasasira, the regional police spokesperson.

The incident has sparked outrage among local leaders and residents. Denis Twahika, the MP for Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipality and an independent candidate, described the attack as disturbing and urged security agencies to act swiftly.

“This is a worrying situation, and security should take keen interest. If the Woman MP candidate was indeed targeted, the culprits must be brought to justice. We must reject the politics of violence,” Twahika stated.
