Voice recording feature for missed calls to be rolled out by Whatsup

WhatsApp to Introduce Voicemail-Style Feature for Missed Calls

WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is set to launch a new voice recording feature that allows users to leave a voice message when their call isn’t answered—a modern twist on traditional voicemail designed for instant messaging.

This upcoming update aims to enhance WhatsApp’s voice communication by making it more intuitive, expressive, and efficient.

How It Works

When a voice or video call goes unanswered, users will see a prompt offering the option to leave a short voice message. Once recorded, the message is sent directly to the recipient’s chat as an audio note, which can be played back at any time—just like a standard voice note.

The new feature is expected to maintain WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption, ensuring user privacy and security.

"A missed call won’t mean a missed opportunity to communicate," a Meta spokesperson said. “This gives people more flexibility—especially when a message is urgent and time-sensitive.”

Why It Matters

In many regions where voice calls remain popular and internet connectivity can be inconsistent, this feature could significantly reduce the frustration of missed or ignored calls. It enables quick voice follow-ups, particularly useful when texting isn’t ideal.

Availability and Testing

Currently, the feature is being trialed in the WhatsApp Beta version for both Android and iOS users. Testers report that messages are capped at 1 minute, and the option to record appears after the call rings out.

Though WhatsApp hasn’t announced an official global release date, industry sources suggest the feature could be widely available by the end of 2025.
