Tragedy struck in Adjumani District, Uganda, on Sunday evening when two Senior Two students of Alere Secondary School lost their lives in a fatal accident on the Adjumani-Omi road. Godfrey Ingavure and Emmanuel Adibaku were returning to school after participating in a ball game competition when their motorcycle collided with an oncoming vehicle.
A third student is currently battling for his life at Lacor Hospital in Gulu City. Police have launched an investigation into the incident and have transported the bodies to Adjumani General Hospital for a postmortem.
This accident is part of a disturbing trend in Adjumani District, where at least 26 people have died and 71 others injured in road traffic accidents over the past eight months. Reckless driving, speeding, drunk driving, and disregard for road signs are the leading causes of these accidents.
The police are urging drivers to exercise caution and follow traffic rules to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.
