THE LION, THE KING OF THE JUNGLE

BY NURSE NINA The lion is often referred to as the "king of the jungle" due to its dominant position in the animal kingdom. Lions are known for their strength, courage, and regal appearance, which have led to their association with royalty and power. In the wild, lions typically live in groups called prides, which are usually made up of related females, their cubs, and a few adult males. The females in a pride are usually related, and the males often form bonds with the females and their cubs. The pride structure allows lions to work together for hunting, protection, and raising their young. Lions are skilled hunters and are known for their powerful jaws and sharp claws, which make them well-equipped to take down prey such as antelopes, zebras, and wildebeests. They are also skilled climbers and have been known to climb trees to escape danger or to rest. The lion's mane is one of its most distinctive features, and it serves as a way for lions to intimidate rivals and attr

TOWARDS BETTER LIVING

By Naturinda Henry, 2024 TEL.+256 760 968715 This reflection generally tries to suggest to me the different ways how one can overcome life’s emotional disturbances that are mostly faced in our everyday life. It also puts forward ways of how I can improve my style of living and become a better person. There is a lot of suffering in our world of today that is as a result of people being hungry for things that are more beautiful and valuable. We all strive to reach at things that are too great and extra ordinary and there is also hunger for love, kindness, justice that make people experience suffering in the world.  It seems to me that it is through these struggles and sufferings that we develop some problems; mental, physical, social and spiritual. As a result, we end up being depressed or bored and we can easily show the clear symptoms of losing interest and pleasure, irritation, loss of concentration, changes in sleeping habits, body pains, feeling of tiredness, feeling of worthlessnes

TOO LATE TO APOLOGISE AND WHAT REALLY HAPPENED* SAY NO TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Where are you coming from by this time of the night? He thundered. Honey you won't believe what happened today. Oh God I'm so tired right now. She replied as she yawned.  I asked where you are coming from and you are vomiting rubbish. Does that answer my question? Are you trying to pretend you don't know there's no food in this house? Femi said fuming. Honey I'm sorry but you should hear me out first. I.... Before she could complete that sentence, a thunderous slap kissed her left cheek and she passed out on the sofa. Get my dinner ready, after that you will tell me why you switched off your phone. He said as he walked towards the bedroom. When he noticed there was no response from his wife, he was infuriated. He rushed towards her to unleash the rest of the demon in him but on getting close to her, he discovered she has passed out. He was shocked. Cold sweat appeared on his forehead and raced down his temple. Fear gripped him. He began to panic. He dashed into the

MY OLD CLASSMATE

I saw my Old Classmate, felt Pity for him... One day, I met an old Classmate. We had not seen each other for about 20 years.  When I saw him again, this time at a hotel lobby, he wore simple clothes. I felt touched. He walked up to me and was glad to see me again. But deep within me, I was not impressed with his status compared to mine, I couldn't hide it. We exchanged contact details, and I could see the joy in him as he collected mine. I told him I would drop him home in my brand new Range Rover but he declined and said he had already called for his car, a 2001 Honda Accord. I invited him the next day for lunch at my house. A part of me wanted to impress him, to show off my success while another was to discuss opportunities and possibly help him. He drove to Bonamousadi, where I lived. He looked impressed with my house, one I had taken a heavy mortgage to acquire and thereafter we had lunch. He told me he was into small business and particularly real estate.  I brought up more bu

A SMILE OPENS A HEART MORE THAN A KEY CAN OPEN A PADLOCK

The statement "A SMILE OPENS A HEART MORE THAN A KEY CAN OPEN A PADLOCK" emphasizes the power of positive emotions and the importance of connecting with others on an emotional level. Smiling is a natural and effortless way to express happiness, friendliness, and approachability. When someone smiles at you, it can have a profound impact on your emotional state, making you feel welcome, appreciated, and valued. The comparison between a smile and a key opening a padlock highlights the idea that a smile can unlock feelings of joy, warmth, and empathy in others. It suggests that a simple act of smiling can create a connection between people, fostering a sense of understanding, compassion, and goodwill. This connection can lead to stronger relationships, improved communication, and a more positive and supportive environment. In contrast, a key opening a padlock represents a more forced or mechanical interaction. It implies that some level of effort or manipulation is required to ga

NOT ALL THAT GLITTERS IS GOLD

BY BRIAN TUMUSIIME The phrase "not all that glitters is gold" is a proverb that reminds us that things are not always as they seem. It cautions us not to judge something or someone based solely on appearances, because appearances deceiving. The phrase suggests that we should be cautious when it comes to making judgments or decisions based on superficial qualities, such as wealth, status, or material possessions. It reminds us that true value and worth are not determined by external appearances, but rather by the character, actions, and intentions of a person or thing. In other words, just because something or someone looks attractive or valuable on the surface, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is truly valuable or worth our trust. We must look beyond the surface and consider the underlying qualities and characteristics before making judgments or decisions. This proverb is often used to warn people against being fooled by superficial attractions or to caution them again

STORY OF THE BLOOD SISTERS

The story of the Blood Sisters is a well-known tale from African folklore, particularly in the Yoruba culture of Nigeria. It tells the story of two sisters, Moremi and Olufemi, who were born into a family of farmers. The sisters were very close and loved each other deeply. One day, a terrible drought struck the land, and the crops began to wither and die. The sisters' father, a wise and compassionate man, decided to seek the help of the gods. He went to the forest and prayed for guidance, and the gods appeared to him in a vision. The gods told the father that the only way to end the drought was to sacrifice one of his daughters to the spirits of the land. The father was heartbroken, but he knew that he had to make the sacrifice to save his people. He chose Olufemi, the younger sister, to be the offering. Moremi was devastated by the loss of her sister, but she knew that she had to be strong for her family. She took on the responsibility of caring for her father and her younger brot

STORY OF A HYENA AND A LION

WRITTEN BY PATRICIA Once upon a time, in the vast savannah of Africa, there lived a hyena named Haki and a lion named Leo. They were both members of the same pride, living together harmoniously under the leadership of their wise and just alpha lion, Zara. Haki and Leo were the best of friends, always playing and exploring together. They were inseparable, and their friendship was admired by all the other animals in the pride. However, one day, a terrible drought hit the land, and the grass began to wither and die. The pride struggled to find enough food, and tensions began to rise. As the drought worsened, Haki and Leo found themselves at odds over a particularly large piece of prey. Leo, being the stronger of the two, claimed the prey as his own, but Haki refused to back down. The two friends became embroiled in a fierce argument, and their friendship began to fray. The rest of the pride watched in horror as the once-strong bond between Haki and Leo began to unravel. The two friends st

THE TWO FROGS

Two Frogs A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took heed to it what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down and died. The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time. Moral: There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it through the day. So be careful of

IN LIFE, WE NEED EACH OTHER

BY NIWAMANYA ACLEO In life, we need each other. This simple yet profound statement captures the essence of human existence and our inherent need for connection, support, and understanding. From the moment we are born, we rely on others for our basic needs, such as food, shelter, and safety. As we grow and develop, our dependence on others only increases, as we seek relationships, friendships, and community. One of the most fundamental ways in which we need each other is through emotional support. We all experience joys and sorrows, triumphs and setbacks, and it is through our relationships with others that we find comfort, solace, and understanding. Whether it is a friend to share our joys and sorrows, a family member to provide love and support, or a therapist to offer professional guidance, we all need someone to turn to in times of need. In addition to emotional support, we also need each other for practical assistance. Whether it is helping us with daily tasks, such as cooking, cle

FAILURE IS THE FIRST STEP TO SUCCESS

The statement "failure is the first step to success" is a common saying that suggests that experiencing failure is an essential part of the process towards achieving success. While this may be true for some people, it is important to note that failure is not inherently the first step to success. Success and failure are both part of the learning process, and it is how we learn from our failures and apply that knowledge to future endeavors that ultimately leads to success. Failure can be a valuable learning experience, as it allows us to identify what went wrong and how we can improve in the future. It can also help us develop resilience and perseverance, which are important qualities for achieving success. However, it is important to remember that failure does not define our worth or potential, and it is not the only path to success. Ultimately, success and failure are both part of the journey, and it is how we learn from our failures and continue to strive for success that ma

NEVER LIVE A LIFE OF REGRET

Never living a life of regret is a noble aspiration, but it is important to recognize that regret is an inherent part of the human experience. It is a natural response to disappointment, loss, or perceived mistakes. While regret can be painful, it also serves as a valuable learning tool, helping us to grow and make better decisions in the future. That being said, there are several strategies you can employ to minimize regret and live a fulfilling life: 1. Embrace imperfection: Understand that you are human, and you will make mistakes. It is impossible to avoid regret entirely, but it is possible to approach it with grace and humility. 2. Practice self-compassion: Treat yourself with kindness when you make mistakes or experience regret. Remember that everyone makes errors, and it is how you learn from them that matters. 3. Focus on the present: Rather than dwelling on past regrets, try to live in the present moment. This can help you to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of the presen
