At least three people have been confirmed dead and ten others injured following a fatal accident on Monday evening along the Ishaka-Kagamba Road in Bushenyi District.
The accident happened at around 4:40pm on Monday, September 7, 2026, at Omukatagu.
According to police, the vehicle involved was a Toyota Hiace Drone registration number UA 836AM. It was carrying mourners from Kashaka in Mbarara District to Rwererere in Rukungiri District when the driver lost control at a sharp corner.
Preliminary reports indicate that excessive speed caused the crash, with police saying the driver failed to negotiate the bend safely.
The injured were rushed to KIU Teaching Hospital and Kitagata Hospital for treatment.
The Traffic and Road Safety Directorate spokesperson, SP Michael Kananura confirmed the incident and cautioned drivers against speeding, especially in corners and other black spots.
“Speeding reduces a driver's ability to react and safely negotiate bends,” SP Kananura warned.
Investigations are still ongoing.
