Uganda Faces Growing Refugee Influx

By Our Reporter

Uganda continues to receive large numbers of refugees fleeing violence and instability in neighbouring countries, placing increasing pressure on the nation’s resources and public services. The steady arrivals are straining refugee settlements, healthcare facilities, education systems, and host communities that share already limited infrastructure.

Humanitarian agencies and government authorities are working to provide food, shelter, and basic services, but funding gaps and rising needs remain a major challenge. Local communities hosting refugees are also feeling the impact, with competition for land, water, and employment becoming more pronounced.

Despite these pressures, Uganda maintains its long-standing open-door policy toward refugees, earning recognition for its inclusive approach. However, officials and aid partners continue to call for stronger international support to help the country sustain its response and protect both refugees and host populations.
