Authorities in Bisheshe division, Ibanda municipality, have today rescued government land from grabbers at 57 miles.
Leaders, led by the division chairperson LCIII, his councilors, the town clerk, and technical staff, reclaimed the government land from the grabbers.
According to Johnson Kanyomozi, the LCIII chairperson of Bisheshe division, this land was originally government property but was grabbed by political figures and public servants.
He stated that Bisheshe division managed to secure a land title for the area and decided to allocate it for the extension of the weekly market at 57 miles.
The speaker of Bisheshe division council, Perezi Tukwatanise, said that a person named Ruhindi had grabbed the land and sold it to others. However, after securing the land title for Bisheshe division, they reclaimed ownership.
Meanwhile, Innocent Kazayo, the chairperson of traders, said he used to work in this market before it was grabbed by Ruhindi.
Kazayo called upon traders who have been allocated space to stand firm, emphasizing that the land belongs to the government, not Ruhindi.
