Douglas Mayanja, a local musician known by his stage name Weasel, is currently receiving treatment at Nsambya Hospital after allegedly being hit three times by his partner, Sandra Tete.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to police in Kabalagala, the incident took place at Chan’s Bar in Munyonyo, within Makindye Division, Kampala. Tete is reported to have hit Weasel with a vehicle, resulting in several fractures in one of his legs.
Following the incident, police arrested Sandra Tete, and she is now being held at Kabalagala Police Station. In her statement to investigators, Tete explained that earlier that day, a domestic conflict arose between her and Weasel, during which he expelled her and their children from the house.
She recounted that she sought assistance from Weasel’s parents, hoping they could mediate. Instead, she says they instructed her to return to her husband and reconcile. Upon returning home, Tete alleges that Weasel continued to verbally and physically abuse her before driving off to Chan’s Bar.
“When he threw me out with our children, I went to report to his parents, expecting help. But they told me to go back and resolve things with him. After I returned, he kept abusing and hitting me, then went to the bar. I followed him there. We argued again, and eventually, I got into the car and hit him,” Tete reportedly told detectives.
Patrick Onyango, spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed her arrest and stated that Weasel was admitted to Nsambya Hospital. He said the domestic conflict that began at home escalated and continued at the bar.
“Witnesses who contacted the police reported that Sandra struck Weasel three times with a vehicle. Fortunately, he survived. Our officers visited him at the hospital, and we were informed that his condition is stable, though he sustained multiple fractures in one leg,” Onyango said.
Weasel is the younger brother of well-known musician Joseph Mayanja, also known as Dr. Jose Chameleone. His relationship with Sandra Tete has reportedly been turbulent, frequently involving police intervention.
The couple has separated on several occasions but are often brought back together through the efforts of family members, friends, and relatives.
