Twenty Five (25) contacts of Ebola patients have been traced in the City of Jinja- Uganda. By Elite Daily News

Sayyid Kalume, the Senior Health Educator for Jinja City, has reported that 25 people who had contact with two Ebola patients identified last week have been located. Most of these individuals are family members and neighbors of the patients, who were placed in isolation after testing positive for the Ebola virus.

The two patients a child and the wife of a Mulago nurse who recently died from Ebola—were recognized as high-risk contacts needing immediate medical care. After the nurse passed away in Mbale, the two moved to stay with relatives in Mafubira Zone A, Northern Division, Jinja City, where health officials eventually tracked them down.

Kalume shared that all 25 contacts were transferred to the national isolation center on Monday for detailed testing and observation while waiting for their results. However, he expressed worry about one key contact who attended a community meeting before fleeing to an undisclosed location and blending into the general public.

Health officials are actively searching for this person through his family and friends to prevent the virus from spreading further. In addition, authorities have disinfected the homes of all identified contacts to remove any potential traces of the virus, ensuring the homes are safe to return to.

In the meantime, Richard Gulume, the Jinja Resident City Commissioner (RCC) and head of the Ebola Taskforce, explained that local officials are collaborating with village health teams (VHTs) to engage the community and raise awareness about the dangers of Ebola. He also mentioned that leaders from political, religious, and cultural groups have been encouraged to use public events to educate the community about preventive measures. Gulume stressed the importance of these collective efforts in preventing the further spread of Ebola and urged the public to stay informed and vigilant.
