KAMPALA UNIVERSITY "THE ORIGINAL" SHOWCASES MOST AFRICA'S RICH CULTURAL DIVERSITY AT JINJA CAMPUS.
Kampala University "The original" organized a fabulous 12th cultural galla edition at Jinja campus from 25th to 26th October, where 4 campuses (Kampala University Luweero, Masaka and Ggaba main campus) were part with 20 Associations as participants and two (2) Associations were from international students (Kampala University South Sudan students Association and Kampala University Nigerian Students Association) to show case their rich cultural diversity under the theme " Promoting Multiculturalism as a tool for strengthening social-economic transformation in educational institutions".
The cultural Gala competition was structured into five categories Set piece, poems, traditional folk songs, traditional dance and modeling in two days time.
Students not only expressed their passion to showcase their traditional values during this great event but also high level discipline, commitment and togetherness. It remains a remarkable experience in the memory and history of Kampala University as a mighty "Big" family.
In attendance were Vice Chancellor Prof Alhajji Owek Badru Ddungu Katteregga delegated by The Katteregas led by Mr Muhammad Katteregga and Rashida Katteregga, Deputy Vice Chancellor Dr. Wilder Gyagenda as chief guest, All directors from five campuses, All Dean of students from five campuses, Guild leaders from all four campuses led by H.E Makuol Daniel Awan (22nd Guild President) who put much efforts to ensure everything was in order from day one upto closure
All students poured hearts into their performance, transforming this event into a great experience. perhaps, students had fun despite of cultural performance, they had a music show in the evening of second day by Vinka who left them warm and charming.
The highlights was Basooga Nseete Association of Jinja campus emerged as the best in all five categories winning a bull as the gift, Nkobazambogo Students Association of Masaka and Nkobazambogo Students Association of Luweero emerged as the second winning themselves each a goat as a gift. And in modelling both Mr and Mrs Kampala University came from Jinja campus.
The 12th edition of KU cultural gala extended beyond mere competitions, emphasizing crucial role culture plays in social-economic transformation in educational institutions especially in plays showcased to address societal challenges like tribalism, forced marriage and many more by students which gave a powerful lesson to the audience not only about loving their culture and heritage but also how to tackle contemporary social challenges. Multiculturalism is a tool for social-economic transformation in educational institutions.
