IBANDA:96 HIV focal persons in schools to be recruited to do sensitization and dissemination of government policies including HIV, next financial year.

The Ibanda district education Officer Peter Nsiimire revealed that they will recruit 96 HIV focal persons in schools to do sensitization and dissemination of government policies including HIV.

He said this during the Ibanda District Local Government Budget Conference for the 2026/27 Financial Year.

Nsimire added that in the next financial year, the salaries of teachers in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions will be paid.

He also mentioned that they will renovate classrooms and complete three classroom blocks at Kibande, Kentitiriyo, and Busingiro that are currently at beam level.

While mentioning some of the challenges, Nsimire said that best-performing learners are not recognized at the district level. He also noted that three parishes—Rwamagundu in Kanyarugiri Town Council, Ryabiju in Nyamarebe Sub-county, and Rugoba in Nyabuhikye Sub-county—do not have primary schools.

He added that most schools have inadequate facilities such as classrooms, latrines, and furniture, and that most of the existing ones require major rehabilitation.
