Breaking news: Tragic Death of 12-Year-Old Pupil in Mbarara Under Investigation

A devastating incident has shaken the community in Mbarara City, as 12-year-old Dorcus Komuhangi, a Primary Five pupil at Rwemiiko Primary School, was found hanging in her bedroom on Wednesday evening. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, with suspicions of either foul play or suicide.

Dorcus had lived with her in-law, Milton Otafiire, for 10 years after losing her parents at the age of four. She was last seen preparing for school that morning, making her sudden death even more alarming.

This incident is not isolated, as there have been previous cases of students committing suicide in Uganda. In February 2025, a 16-year-old senior three student at Seeta High School's main campus was found dead in a dormitory. Another incident occurred in 2024, where a 20-year-old student at Budini Secondary School in Kaliro District died by suicide.

The authorities have transported Dorcus' body for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue. The police urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigation.
